Ignition timing tool. You have a narrowcase and looking for a simple timing solution  (and you already know that there are no ignition datum marks on the clutch casing)? Or you have a widecase BUT the dumb PO has polished off your timing marks on the clutch cover? You may want to investigate valve timing on your engine or possibly want to set static timing (CB points). Maybe you have a fancy dry clutch casing and there simply are no timing marks. Whatever; the solution lies here!

The tool comprises:
  • Crankshaft arbor and notched disc.
  • Securing bolt and locknut.
  • Double sided timing disc.
  • 'Eyebrow' plate.
  • Stainless steel locating bolts complete with spacer sleeves.

NOTE WELL!!!
EXTRA CARE IS NEEDED WHEN USING THIS TOOL.
THERE IS A DANGER OF HARM FROM THE ROTATING TIMING DISC
REFER TO DUCATI WORKSHOP MANUALS FOR SPECIFIC TECHNICAL INSTRUCTIONS

NARROWCASE STROBE TIMING
  1. Remove the M22 threaded plug
  2. Remove the 2 M6 casing screws
  3. Assemble the 'eyebrow' making sure the longer screw is on the left.
  4. Insert the arbor into the end of the crankshaft. With the locknut undone to the maximum extent, engage the drive tang into the crank end slot. WARNING If the tang does not engage properly - STOP and investigate further! Rectify before proceeding!
  5. Screw in the M8 bolt and lock with the M8 locknut.
  6. ENSURE THE TOOL IS SECURE BEFORE STARTING THE ENGINE.
STATIC TIMING.
  1. Assemble the tool with the larger white faced degree disc.
  2. Line up "TOP" withe the V notch on the small fixed disc and tighten the knurled aluminium collar.
  3. Insert the tool into the engine, as above.
  4. WARNING - DO NOT START OR RUN THE ENGINE WITH THE WHITE FACED DISC FITTED TO THE MAIN TOOL ARBOR!

WIDECASE

On the clutch cover there are usually 2 marks present:
  1. "DASH" - this is for the 450 models
  2. "DOT" . this is for the 250 & 350 models
If the marks are missing, the steel plate 'eyebrow' can be used as reference points. For 'Static Timing' the kit provides a reference point for determining TDC.
FINALLY
THIS IS A DELICATE TOOL WITH THE POTENTIAL TO CAUSE DANGER & HARM.
IF YOU ARE UNSURE OF YOUR COMPETENCE IN THIS FIELD THEN YOU SHOULD SEEK PROFESSIONAL OR QUALIFIED HELP.
